April 5, 2001 Solar Condition Advisory

Metatech has been closely monitoring new active regions that are now coming into view on the Sun. The level of activity has dramatically increased in these new regions and if this continues, they could again pose a threat for large geomagnetic storms as these regions move across the solar disk. As we did last week, we are now issuing a public Solar Condition Advisory that is in the attached PDF file. Also contained in this advisory is a summary of the brief storm activity associated with the shock event of April 4. This includes a brief overview of geomagnetic disturbance activity that can occur even for power grids located at low-latitudes, as yesterday’s disturbance likely caused GIC’s over very broad planetary regions.

We want to thank all who have expressed appreciation for our advisory notices. We hope they have been useful in helping anticipate and better manage these unique storm risks on your critical infrastructures. If there is anything further we can do to assist please let us know. Also if you have others who would be interested in receiving our notices, please let us know and we can add them to our distribution list.

We will continue to update you on develops as warranted.

Best Regards,
John Kappenman,
