Based upon large solar flare and CME’s (coronal mass ejections) of August 25 that appear to be Earth-directed, Metatech is issuing a Geomagnetic Storm Advisory. Please find attached a PDF with the August 27, 2001 Solar Condition and Geomagnetic Storm Advisory. Based upon the limited observational data available, the current levels of solar activity have the potential to trigger a moderate strength geomagnetic storm starting as early as today August 27, 2001. Active Region 9591 is continuing to pose a threat for additional eruptive activity over the next 5 days, as a result Metatech is also extending the Solar Conditioning Advisory first issued on August 24, 2001.

Please be advised that these several day-ahead projections have considerable uncertainty. Solar wind conditions when observed near earth will determine the severity of any geomagnetic storm activity as the plasma cloud arrives.
