September 24, 2001 Solar Condition & Geomagnetic Storm Advisory

Based upon large solar flare and CME’s (coronal mass ejections) of September 24 that appear to be Earth-directed, Metatech is issuing a Geomagnetic Storm Advisory. Please find attached a PDF with the September 24, 2001 Solar Condition and Geomagnetic Storm Advisory. Based upon the limited observational data available, the current levels of solar activity have the potential to trigger a moderate strength geomagnetic storm starting as early as today September 24, 2001. Active Region 9632 is continuing to pose a threat for additional eruptive activity over the next 5 days.

Please be advised that these several day-ahead projections have considerable uncertainty. Solar wind conditions when observed near earth will determine the severity of any geomagnetic storm activity as the plasma cloud arrives. Our customers that subscribe to this service will receive the usual continuous one-minute updates on these rapidly changing conditions.
